Polkadot (DOT)
A structurally sound asset whose market structure has deteriorated badly and whose score is pulled toward neutral by data we could not measure.
Crypto Score: 63/100 (B) — Hold

Polkadot is a Layer 0 network: a relay chain that secures a set of parachains, each an independent blockchain with its own state and logic. Holders stake DOT to secure the relay chain, pay for parachain slots, and govern the protocol. It is a plumbing bet — the thesis is that many specialised chains will want shared security rather than building their own validator set. Essentially all supply already circulates, which removes the overhang that penalises many newer assets.
The composite lands at grade B with a Hold signal, and the mix is genuinely awkward. Tokenomics and on-chain turnover are the strongest dimensions; technical setup is the weakest by a wide margin, with price below both major moving averages and nowhere near its high. Momentum confirms the damage. That pairing — solid structure, broken chart — is what the score is actually describing.
Bull case
- Supply is almost entirely circulating with a hard cap, so new issuance cannot quietly dilute holders the way it does on assets with large locked allocations still vesting.
- On-chain turnover against market cap is strong, indicating the asset trades with real participation rather than sitting illiquid at a price nobody is willing to transact at.
- Its relay-chain design gives parachains shared security without forcing them to bootstrap independent validator sets — a clear product thesis rather than a generic smart-contract platform.
- Fundamental strength holds up on market-cap rank, which places it firmly in the leading tier of networks despite the price drawdown.
Bear case
- Technical setup is the weakest dimension and it is not close: price sits below both the fifty-day and two-hundred-day averages and a long way below its high, with no sign of reversal.
- Sentiment and momentum corroborate the chart. Lower on the week, lower on the month, sharply lower across the past year — the market has voted for some time and not favourably.
- This score cannot speak to whether Polkadot actually earns anything. TVL, protocol fee revenue, protocol revenue and public development activity were all unmeasurable here, so we are scoring structure, not business fundamentals.
- A Layer 0 is only worth holding if parachains want its security. Nothing in the measurable data tells us whether they do.
Verdict
DOT is a staking and infrastructure holding for people who believe shared security is a category worth owning, priced today as if that belief has already been tested and found wanting. It is not a momentum instrument and nothing in the chart invites treating it as one. The reading changes only if price reclaims both major moving averages with turnover staying strong — until then, the score describes an asset being held, not bought. Whether the parachains actually generate fees is a question this score never answered, and it is the one that matters most.
